Position Overview

Dayton-Granger is actively hiring a CNC Machine Shop Supervisor (also known as Machining Supervisor, Production Lead, or Machine Shop Team Lead) to oversee our aerospace manufacturing machine shop. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with a strong background in both CNC and manual machining, as well as experience in aerospace or precision manufacturing environments.

You’ll supervise daily operations in a mixed machine environment—including Mazak, Citizen, Fadal, manual Bridgeports, and 3D printing stations—ensuring production quality, workflow efficiency, and on-time delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise day-to-day operations of the Machine Shop, including CNC and manual machining, tooling & fixture fabrication, and additive manufacturing (3D printing).

  • Coordinate and assign work orders to machinists, optimizing efficiency to meet production targets.

  • Train, coach, and support machinists while enforcing safety, quality, and procedural compliance.

  • Review blueprints and technical drawings to ensure accurate setups and part specifications.

  • Manage CNC programming updates and revision control in line with engineering changes.

  • Oversee equipment maintenance and shop organization; collaborate with Facilities and Maintenance teams.

  • Submit purchase requisitions for tools, raw materials, and machine components as needed.

  • Work with Production Control and other department leaders to adjust schedules and eliminate workflow bottlenecks.

  • Lead continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives (5S, Kaizen, etc.).

  • Update and maintain SOPs for Machine Shop, Additive Manufacturing, and Tooling areas.

  • Track key performance metrics (quality, on-time delivery, efficiency) and report results to management.

  • Support employee performance evaluations, hiring, discipline, and development.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by leadership.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 5+ years of experience in a machining environment (CNC and/or manual), including hands-on setup and operation.

  • 3+ years in a supervisory or team lead role in a manufacturing or machine shop setting.

  • Proficient in machining practices using Mazak, Citizen, Fadal, and Bridgeport equipment.

  • Familiar with 3D printing applications for fixtures and prototyping.

  • Able to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and work instructions.

  • Skilled in using measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, height gauges).

  • Experience with ERP systems for job tracking and inventory management.

  • Proven experience applying Lean Manufacturing tools and driving process improvements.

  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).

  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a shop floor environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, or highly regulated manufacturing environments.

  • Familiarity with FAA, ITAR, and AS9100 standards.

  • Background in tooling and fixture design or coordination.

  • Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar process improvement methodologies.
